Blurred Lines...I don't think so!

Law students from Auckland, New Zealand have stood up for women's rights by way of a parody of Robin Thicke's hit song: Blurred Lines. 'Defined Lines' is the feminist approach to Thicke's catchy song, and I definitely think that the lyrics are much improved!

Finally, someone has stood up for women. Since Robin Thicke released his song Blurred Lines, everyone seems to have basically been ignoring the fact that the lyrics are blatantly related to the fact that when a girl says no, she really means yes. Um, so not true. Guys, take note, when a girl says no, she means no. Otherwise it's rape.

But now, some female law students from New Zealand have stood up to the societal expectations, breaking out of the box and writing a feminist parody of Thicke's Number 1 song. This song expresses exactly what I feel whenever I listen to Thicke's song. Because the thing is, no matter how catchy it is, no matter what position it reaches on the radio...there is no way that songs with these sorts of lyrics are suitable. They encourage date-rape and unsuitable treatment of women, which is definitely no go.

So if you're like me, and you also appreciated the original song for it's tune and catchiness, but didn't appreciate the lyrics, then listen to the parody 'Defined Lines'. You will love these girls for standing up for women's rights (particularly after Miley Cyrus made it seem like it was ok to dance horrifically with a foam hand on stage wearing a skin-coloured lycra bikini) and will love the new lyrics for this song which give power to girls.

In four days, this new parody has received over 400 000 hits on Youtube, with my favourite lyrics being the exact opposite of what Thicke implies in the first song.

'Just don't harass me, you can't just grab me...that's a sex crime.' Thank you. It needed said. Good job girls! (and guys involved in the making!)
