This trailer hooked me, with the magic, parties and excitement that it portrayed. Unlike a lot of trailers these days, it didn't give away the entire plot, and gave you just enough to make you want to see the movie.
But I was still hesitant. Because, let's face it...Baz Luhrmann has made some pretty...I'll be nice and say...dodgy movies in the past. Moulin Rouge anyone? Australia? And so, you can understand that I was a little bit scared to see if he had massacred them in the typical Luhrmann fashion.
BUT I WAS SO HAPPY! Not only did he tell the story in a way that paid homage to the original book, he also didn't change the plot in order to suit his needs (see his version of Romeo and Juliet...the modern day massacre between drug lords or whatever it is).
This movie had exactly the right kind of excitement and over-the-top emphasis that is the same as in the original Gatsby. The soundtrack was completely amazing and I was hooked the whole way through.
This movie had me smiling most of the way through with how true it was to the book, and in this case, I was extremely happy that Baz had interjected his style, because that's exactly how the book portrays Gatsby's life.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, get onto it, because it is definitely worth your while! I even saw it in 3D (not on purpose, it was just the only timeslot available), and I think it improved upon an already visually spectacular and stunning movie. This movie is great and every way, shape and form...go see it...right NOW!
