It was exam block. I had a 4 day break between one law exam and the next one. I reread Paper Towns by John Green, because I haven't read it in a couple of years. Then I read The Great Gatsby because I really wanted to see the movie.
And then I read this. 50 Shades of Grey.
My main reason to read this was because, for the past couple of years, everywhere I go, there have been women reading this book. The most popular place for women to read this book is in airports. Like, when I was on a plane once, the FLIGHT ATTENDANT was reading this book when she had a break. Like really, it's not a secret. It's erotica. If you're going to read this book, you should not read it in public.
And then there are the women reading it around their kids.
Imagine the conversation:
Child: What are you reading mum?
Mum: Just a book that has lot's of sex between two adults, one of whom is a billionaire who's kinda crazy, and the other one is a girl who is apparently innocent but really just has an overactive sex drive.
Child: What's sex?
But anyway, I read this book. In about chapter 2, I started counted the amount of times that the main character, Anastasia Steele, blushed. By the end of the book, I had reached a tally of 81 (that I kept on my hand. By this, it meant, every time Ana blushed, flushed, went scarlet/crimson/any other shade of red or did anything at all related to blushed...I tallied it.
This character must literally spend her whole life looking sunburnt or like a tomato. Seriously! Learn to write!!!!!!!!
But then again, it is based of a Twilight fanfiction, which in turn is based of Stephenie Meyer...so what else would we expect other than poor writing?
All in all, I actually read this book in two days. No, that's not because I enjoyed it. At all. I struggled through it, the only thing keeping me going was the blush tally on my right hand. I just wanted to get it over and done with because it was so bad and it was annoying me so much. Hasn't she heard of feminism at all? Or did it all go out the window when she met Christian Grey?!
And then...SPOILER ALERT, DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK OR DON'T WANT ME TO RUIN THE ENDING.
It ends on a cliffhanger.
BUT I DON'T WANT TO READ THE NEXT ONE. Maybe I'll just google what happens in the next two. I don't know yet, I'll let you know!
